UPDATE: February 18, 2009
New XDCAM Transfer 2.8 just Released with many small bug fixes. This version has two very important features for Final cut Pro users!
1) One of the Bug fixes allows for proper bridging and import of clips that Exceed the 4GB FAT32 file limit (approx 16min@25Mbps or 12 min@35Mbps or clips that span over multiple cards.
2) There is also now a way to export edited sequences from FCP back to XDCAM Transfer and then record them back onto the SxS card – this is handy if you want to use the camera or deck to play out edited material on either the HDSDI* port for display or transmission purposes or also in the case of the deck you can use the HDMI port.
3) Note in the case of playback on the camera via HDSDI if the original edited sequence is in 23.98 Fps a 2/3 pull down is added via HDSDI play out. The PMW-EX30 with the firmware loaded that shipped from November 08 (available as a NC upgrade = version 1.11) can play out 23.98 PSF without pulldown.
A couple of other important notes:
When you are in XDCAM Transfer importing clips to FCP the XDCAM Transfer software keeps a “history” of which clips have been imported previously. So if say you loaded a clip just as a test and then in another session tried to reload the clip it will not import again.
If you experience this problem you have to first eject the SxS Card (or mounted Back Up folder eg Card 1) and then in the Source Window of XDCAM Transfer you have to highlight the icon for the same card that is kept after the eject and then under “fille” select “remove source” – it will ask if you want to proceed or not if you say yes all history of working with that card along with the icon in the source window is erased and then when you re insert the card (mount Back Up folder eg Card 1) it is exactly the same as inserting the card for the first time. Then any of the single clips (MP4’s) or Bridged clips (SMI’s) can be imported.
In order to Import clips that span 2 cards both cards (or folders) must be online in the XDCAM Transfer source window simultaneously.
Current version of XDCAM EX Browser is 2.01
A new version of the Browser will release by early March adding two main benefits as standard features:
1) The EX Browser can then be used to view either XDCAM EX or XDCAM HD (Prodisc Clips)
2) You will be able to export SD DVCAM files with TC.
FYI : A new Mac version VFAM Driver that will enable write back capability to the PDW-U1 from XDCAM Transfer on the Mac will also release by early March.
